I recognize that this is a small shop and that delays happen, but proactive communication would have helped. To be clear: I’m sharing this to set expectations on timeline, communication, and finishing quality, not to belittle anyone's work.
This has been a disappointing experience overall. The product is "fine," but it isn't the quality I paid for, and the engraving, while technically correct, is surprisingly underwhelming for a deluxe edition item.
I purchased the deluxe GM Screen at the end of June. The product page does state that it takes 4-8 weeks to ship, so right around the 8 week mark I reached out and requested an update on my purchase. I was given a response that my product would take longer to ship due to a surge in purchases, so I should expect my purchase to ship in mid-September. Not a great start here as I would have expected a pre-emptive communication about this, but I could let it slide as I understand that this is an intensive process. Mid-September comes and goes without an update, so I have to reach out again, giving him until the last week of September to do so. I'm told that he has the wood cut and that he's milling it. I can "expect shipping information by the end of next week." Apparently this delay was due to equipment issues. Again, I would expect this to be communicated ahead of time if that's the case. This was September 25th. The next time I get an update is October 17th - I had to initiate this communication yet again. I'm told that he can get my purchase packed the following night and shipped after the beginning of the following week. Excellent. Finally.
Wednesday of the following week I'm told that my order was returned to him with a damaged shipping label, the box being badly beat up and mangled. He hadn't yet looked at the item, but he mentioned that he would replace the shield and that he had the spares on hand to replace any broken items therein. Great. In the four month process, this is the first and only time he's actively reached out! Definitely on the up-and-up. And then we get the product.
Dozens of chip dents and tear outs. One of the doors is hung poorly. While the engraving is correct, the deluxe edition’s flat face makes it look unfinished, especially when the basic version frames the same text with a v-groove border and roundover.
I love the modularity. The product is definitely functional and ultimately immensely cool. But the price point for the lack of QC, the general lack of communication, and a product that comes 2 months late with no updates did not meet my expectations.
